Job Title - Night Custodian, Norwalk Middle School
Reports to - Buildings & Grounds Director
Position Purpose - Maintaining the overall cleanliness and safety of the school facility including but not limited to vacuuming, dry mopping, wet mopping, sanitizing, and dusting.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
Dry mop and wet mop hard surface floors
Vacuum and shampoo carpet
Clean toilets and urinals and disinfect all restroom hardware
Identify unsafe conditions and correct in a timely fashion
Submit or complete work orders
Request supplies from the Lead Custodian in a timely fashion
Complete snow removal and apply ice melt in a timely fashion as directed
Prepare and clean facility rooms for meetings, programs and other activities
Report all safety hazards
Secure the facility as directed
Participate as directed in all staff development training
Participate in cross training as a trainer or trainee
Maintain a reliable attendance record
Maintain custodial rooms in a safe, clean and organized fashion
Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to use chemicals, equipment, tools and work processes in cleaning and preventative maintenance of public facilities and grounds
Ability to read and comprehend labels, signs and written instructions
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
Ability to work independently
Ability to establish positive relations with others
Good health as confirmed by required pre-employment physical
Ability to operate mechanical equipment including but not limited to waxing machines, auto scrubber, carpet cleaner, vacuum, custodial cart, lawn mower, snow blower, and weed trimmer
Ability to use communication equipment including but not limited to the telephone
A past history of good attendance
Qualifications Profile
1-3 years custodial experience preferred
Experience working in a school setting a plus
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting minimum of 20 pounds, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and stooping.

Varied.
Terms of Employment
12-month work year. Wage and work year to be established by the Board. Employment subject to provisions of board policy, state and federal law.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Buildings & Grounds Director, or in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of staff.
FLSA Status
Non-Exempt.
