Head Athletic Performance Coach

Northwestern College is seeking applicants for the position of head athletic performance coach with a start date of Aug. 1. The position is a full-time, 10-month (August to May), dual-role appointment with some teaching duties and responsibilities within the kinesiology department (https://www.nwciowa.edu/exercise-science) . The successful candidate will work directly with the director of athletic performance and will also report to the kinesiology department chair for academic duties. This position will manage and implement athletic performance training for football and other designated sports as coordinated with the director of athletic performance. The head athletic performance coach will be responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the Korver Athletic Performance Center (https://nwcraiders.com/facilities/korver-athletic-performance-center/11) .

General Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with coaches and sports medicine staff to develop and implement training for football and other assigned sports.

  • In conjunction with the director of athletic performance and coaches, schedule team training times in the Korver Athletic Performance Center.

  • Collaborate with all parties to optimize a student-athlete-centered approach to enhance their health, wellness and performance, and foster lifelong bodily stewardship practices.

  • Mentor, supervise, schedule, and assist with assessing and providing constructive feedback for undergraduate interns/practicum student assistants.

  • Promote and enhance an educational environment for graduate assistants and undergraduate student assistants.

  • Oversee general upkeep and maintenance of the Korver Athletic Performance Center to promote a safe training environment.

  • Instruct and manage strength-and-conditioning-related courses (5 credits/year) within the kinesiology department.

  • Conduct various other duties in collaboration with the director of athletic performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and at minimum a bachelor’s in kinesiology/exercise science

  • 1-2 years of coaching experience in athletic performance training

  • NSCA-CSCS-certified

  • CPR/AED and first aid-certified

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of coaching experience in athletic performance training

  • Experience with coordinating and implementing an educational curriculum within athletic performance, whether within an academic setting or internship program

  • Teaching experience in a collegiate/university setting
