Recreational Sports Graduate Assistant

Northwestern College is seeking applicants for a recreational sports graduate assistant beginning Aug. 1. Qualified applicants will foster engaging intramural sports opportunities for all Red Raider students and oversee the Rowenhorst Fitness Center, which is shared by the Northwestern campus community and residents of Orange City. This position will report to the associate athletic director for facilities and work collaboratively with the athletic department, Northwestern students and Orange City community members.

General Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and program intramural sports

  • Manage Rowenhorst Fitness Center activities and scheduling

  • Train and supervise student employment staff of up to 35 students

  • Assist the associate athletic director for facilities with day-to-day operation of the fitness center, fieldhouse and gymnasium

  • Serve as the manager of the fitness center front desk and point of contact for memberships, scheduling and staff coordination

  • Assist with the hiring of intramural staff including officials, supervisors and coordinators

  • Collaborate with maintenance staff, A/V staff and other campus groups for event setup in the student center

  • Assist in facility reservation and logistics for special events held in the recreation facility and serve as events facility administrator during assigned events

  • Assist with managing equipment inventory, maintenance and evaluation

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, sport management, kinesiology or other related field

  • Experience in recreational sports

  • Must be enrolled in and on track to successfully complete a master’s degree in an accredited program

This is a two-to-three-year position determined by the program of study, with a 10-month (August-May) commitment. Compensation includes a 10-month stipend and housing with an on-campus meal plan.
