Indian Hills Community College Tutor Coordinator in Ottumwa, Iowa
Under the supervision of the Educational Talent Search (ETS) Assistant Director, the Tutor Coordinator will oversee the tutoring program for 8th grade participants at Evans Middle School. Tutoring at Evans Middle School includes teaching ALEKS classes during the school day, conducting the classes virtually, as needed, and working with the school district to expand tutoring services to best meet the needs of participants. They will work as a member of the Talent Search project team to ensure that the project goals and objectives as established in the funded federal proposal are accomplished and specified federal and local institutional criteria are met.Bachelor’s degree required in education, psychology, sociology, human services or a related field.

Bachelor’s degree required in education, psychology, sociology, human services or a related field.
Must demonstrate organizational, promotional, oral and written community skills, leadership skills, and instructional skills.
Must have knowledge and/or skill with project population and their specific needs.
Must be able to perform job responsibilities with minimal direct supervision.
Must demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of target population.
Must communicate effectively with professional personnel and with participants from populations traditionally underrepresented (ethnic minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, etc.).
Professional experience with under-resourced students preferred.
Preference will be given to a person who has education and/or economic background similar to the target population.
Preference will be given to bi-lingual candidates.
Coordinate ETS tutoring program for 8th grade students at Evans Middle School and online tutoring for high school students. Tutoring at Evans Middle School includes teaching an ALEKS class during the school day and developing other tutoring classes as needed by participants.
Assist with recruitment of 500 participants to the ETS program.
Plan fieldtrip opportunities to participants to colleges, cultural events, college fairs, career fairs, volunteer opportunities and potential career sites.
Communicate regularly with school guidance staff and ETS Assistant Director on progress with participants and any challenges encountered.
Develop contacts with target area organizations to develop list of referral agencies for other participant needs.
Occasional overnight travel may be required for student fieldtrips and professional development events.
Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
Perform other duties as assigned.

193 days consistent with Ottumwa school district calendar. Occasional days during the summer.
