We have an excellent opportunity for a Asphalt General Superintendent on our Asphalt team. We offer competitive wages with a full benefits package. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible to safely supervise and coordinate activities of projects and crews in Asphalt Paving, to include Gravel Base, and Milling operations.
- Over 2 years up to and including 4 years from post high school, work, military, institutional or vocational environment.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in product line and supervisory role.
- Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.
- Knowledge of workings of an Asphalt Plant and Mix Design
- Experience in managing multiple crews at one time.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
Safely and properly supervise and coordinate activities of projects.
Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.
Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR regulation compliance
Ensure compliance with all company safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Work with Asphalt Plant Manager and Asphalt Plant operators to ensure production of Quality Asphalt mixes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Gravel Base 1. Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects. 2. Complete quality gravel/base jobs within specifications. 3. Coach employees. 4. Communicate needed information to employees. 5. Complete necessary paperwork. 6. Deliver samples to lab. 7. Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily as needed.
Milling 1. Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects. 2. Complete quality gravel/base jobs within specifications. 3. Coach employees. 4. Communicate needed information to employees. 5. Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily as needed.
Paving 1. Communicate paving crew needs with dispatch - Calculate number of trucks required to haul aggregate and/or hot mix asphalt according to capacity of vehicles, traffic conditions, distance from work site and productivity of drivers. 2. Communicate needs to plant. 3. Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects. 4. Produce quality asphalt product within specifications. 5. Coach employees. 6. Communicate needed information to employees. 7. Assist/Train new employees. 8. Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily as needed. 9. Tour work site to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules and to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment. 10. Communicate with upper management progress of projects to ensure production rates are obtained 11. Supervise all Asphalt crews and share resources between crews to ensure maximum production is obtained
