Position Purpose:

Under limited direction of the supervisor and with medical direction of the radiologist, serves in a lead capacity to carry out appropriate ultrasound procedures and maintains related records; provides general assistance to the radiologist in interpreting films and provides technical instruction to students and hospital staff. The scope of practice includes those procedures, acts, and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience and has demonstrated competency in the standard of practice of ultrasound.

What you will Do:

  • In addition to performing all the essential job functional competencies of a staff Sonographer, assists and makes recommendations to the Supervisor and Director about duties that include but are not limited to performance evaluations, timecards, (Kronos), productivity, and quality assurance.

  • Maintains and participates in associate work and call schedules.

  • Acts as the expert technical resource for the department regarding imaging protocols.

  • Oversees and directs work of associates in the department to ensure proper workflow.

  • Along with the supervisor, is responsible for maintaining department imaging records in accordance with standards and protocols. Adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations as they apply to imaging services.

  • Assists the supervisor overseeing the collection and coordination of recording data for quality/compliance initiatives. Helps maintain ACR accreditation.

  • Ensures departmental equipment is maintained in safe operating condition and contacts Biomed personnel as appropriate. Reports any equipment issues to supervisor.

  • Closely monitors and maintains patient schedules and appointments. Ensures department schedule is appropriate for patient volume and recommends adjustments as necessary.

  • Duties and responsibilities include accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to patients, including those that produce patient charges. Additional responsibilities will include revenue reconciliation and charge error correction as specified by department and hospital policy.

  • Coordinates and ensures department communication with Physicians, Management, Associates, Patients, Families, and Visitors to facilitate department workflow.

  • Assists supervisor with annual policy and procedure audits.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be RDMS/RVT registered.

  • BLS certification required.

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years experience as a sonographer preferably on site.

  • Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)

  • Required to travel within the Siouxland region in order to perform job duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • A valid drivers license and proof of insurance must be submitted by the employee to their manager and will be maintained throughout employment.

  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
