How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

This position will fill high-pressure and liquid cylinders, perform pre-fill inspections and attend to our filling room at our Wayne, MI facility. Based on order activity will drive up to a 20-ton truck loaded with compressed gas cylinders, liquid cylinders and hard goods for delivery to customers on scheduled or unscheduled route, also loads/unloads trucks, as well as pallets.

Cylinder Filler Responsibilities

  • Handle high-pressure and liquid cylinders
  • Manage paperwork to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards
  • Assist loading/unloading cylinders on / off pallets and on /off tractor trailers
  • Inspect cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures as required by government, Airgas, and distributor standards.
  • Prepares high pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling: Attaches to manifold, evacuates cylinders to eliminate all possible contaminants.
  • Fills cylinders by pressure and weight, per regulations and standards.
  • Analyzes products for purity and correct mixtures.
  • Conducts a variety of Safety checks per procedures, such as odor tests, checking caps and valves.
  • Accurately labels cylinders.
  • Completes quality control sheets as required.
  • Understands hazards of various gases; size and contents of cylinders by reading and interpreting cylinder labels and the color-coding of tanks.
  • Operate a forklift, pallet jack and other warehouse equipment.

Backup Driver Responsibilities

  • Safely loads, delivers and unloads cylinders containing compressed gases to customer locations. Delivers compressed gas cylinders to external and internal customer sites. Records deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest and obtains signatures from customers for receipt purposes. Collects empty cylinders or rejected or unsold merchandise. Returns empty cylinders to either a plant or branch location for refilling.
  • Establishes and maintains good customer relations. Listens to and helps resolve service inquiries and complaints.
  • Provides timely communication back to manager or to the customer's assigned Airgas sales associate regarding any changes or issues experienced by the customer.
  • Maintains load manifests and all required vehicle documents by ensuring they are properly completed and reconciled with truck counts and shipping documents before and after deliveries. Ensures that vehicle manifests, vehicle placards, cylinder labeling and load nesting and strapping at all times comply with Airgas safety standards.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections documenting deficiencies; ensures all safety items are in good working order.

__Are you a MATCH?

  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1-3 years' experience in manufacturing operation, filling or loading experience preferred.
  • Strong background in gas, welding and safety supply industry or chemical industry preferred.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Class A or B CDL.
  • HAZMAT endorsement (or ability to obtain Hazmat).
  • Minimum of 1 year verifiable professional driving experience or Minimum 6 months with a degree from Certified Driving School.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent's.
