Hooks and unhooks trailers from the tractor itself, including pushing and/ or pulling dollies into place and cranking lever to raise and lower landing gear on semi-trailers. Loads and unloads trailer with mechanical freight handling equipment as required.
Ensures truck and trailers are in good, clean operating conditions.
Inspects truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during and after trips and submits reports on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip.
Checks shipping papers to determine the nature of load and checks to ensure the load is properly loaded.
Ensures that all shipment documentation required to move with shipment is available for inspection and that appropriate paperwork accompanies shipment when delivered.
Maintains records required for compliance with State and Federal regulations, including driver's log.
Gives directions to help in packing and moving goods to trailer.
Fastens chain or binders to secure load on trailers during transit.
Inventories and inspects goods to be moved to ensure that load is stable and safe to move.
Maneuvers truck in to loading or unloading positions following signals from loading crew as needed.
Performs all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and complies with all Federal, State and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
Reports all accidents and/ or incidents involving driver or company equipment.
Contributes to a safe working environment by being responsible for quality, safety, organization, and cleanliness in your area of operation.
Contributes to team effort by communicating and working well with others, as well as accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
At least 1 year recent experience.
CDL-A License is required.
Must have strong English communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels in a team environment and customers or vendors.
Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend documents such as maps, safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, frequently exerting 30 pounds of force, and have the ability to climb on and off flatbed trailers in all types of weather conditions.
Must be available to travel long distances with overnight stays as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Hours will vary based on business need. Typically Monday – Friday, 50-60 hours per week. Out and back lanes.
