Tyson Foods Livestock Handler 4 in Storm Lake, Iowa
This position is responsible for sorting, processing, counting, and moving livestock to the stunning area. Position is responsible for operating in a safe, humane manner while adhering to all Tyson Policies; Functions performed could affect product safety, legality and quality systems. Mark disabled hogs while keeping accurate inventories. In addition, the person will be responsible for working closely with USDA personnel on a daily basis. Candidate must be capable of utilizing a radio for communication purposes with management. Candidate must also be able to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations. Perform light building maintenance and show case duties when not working with livestock. Some skid loader operation might be required.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience: 6+ months of experience within the plant.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills required.
Communication Skills: Must have good verbal and written communication skills and must be able to communicate effectively with Management and USDA.
Environment: Team members may be required to wear hard hat, steel toe boots or hearing protection. The temperature of the work area is seasonal and may reach in excess of 95° Physical Demands & Requirements: Bending: Minimal bending is required depending on the ability to motivate hogs with the Team Members voice. Lifting: Minimal amounts of lifting are required to use the flag. The flag weighs less than 5 pounds. Push/Pull: Some pushing/pulling maybe required to open and close gates or drag downed hogs; Reaching: Reaching with the flag is required to move hogs. Grasping: A full hand grasp is used when holding flags, plastic bat and gates; Standing: Team members are required to stand or walk for the entire shift; Force: Minimal force is required for most tasks. Moderate to heavy force may be needed when dragging downed hogs.
