This position provides emergency services case management support within the guidelines of The Salvation Principles & Practices. This position functions in accord with The Salvation Army Social Services Codes & Ethics. This includes those facing emergencies that include food, rental evictions, foreclosures, utility shut off notices, natural disasters, and other issues affecting their ability to be self-sufficient and to remain in permanent housing.
Serve as first line of contact for clients, donors, and volunteers.
Warmly greet, answer and provide referrals as appropriate to guests and callers.
Receive and organize postal items.
Maintain all front desk files and complete reports as necessary. Ensure all are always updated and organized.
Take in monetary and in-kind donations and issue receipts.
Monitor and assist in end of month statistical report generation.
Assist with office supply order and keeping supply room organized.
Perform general office tasks including copying, scanning, sorting, and filing.
Assist in seasonal activities.
Become familiar, cooperate and network with community service providers to secure appropriate assistance for participants.
Makes and accepts referrals to other social services providers.
Establishes and maintain a professional and therapeutic relationship in accordance to The Salvation Army Territorial guidelines and confidential laws.
Conduct individual interviews with participants identified as needing emergency services.
Provide emergency assistance within the established protocols, procedures, and limitations of The Salvation Army
Accurately completes in a timely manner all necessary forms and case notes for participant case file.
Provide assistance in perishable food item give away as needed.
Provide participants with information regarding Pathway of Hope. Refer potential cases to Pathway of Hope coordinator for review.
Maintain Pantry Closet items in an orderly manner and keep clean and organized
Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army’s “Safe from Harm” Certification.
Other duties as assigned
Regulars, Part-time, Non-Exempt
High School diploma or equivalent knowledge ofSocial Work, Human Services, or closely related fieldor willingness to attend training. Certified in CPR/AED or willing to achieve certification.
Successful candidates must be able to manage the varied demands of working with vulnerable, high risk individuals and families. Having a solid understanding of human nature and the dynamics of families is essential. Individuals must be flexible in order to handle unexpected and crisis situations with calmness and good judgment; must have a working knowledge of community resources, good communication and organizational skills, effective problem solving skills and are able to relate well to adults in a patient, courteous and respectful manner. Those serving in a lead position must also be able to field questions related to program policies and procedures, provide credible direction and guidance to volunteers and office staff and ensure the timely reporting and documenting of program activities. Finally, individuals must demonstrate honesty and be able to think independently and treat participant information in a confidential manner. All employees must be able to pass a background check.
Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
This Position is required to do light to moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to remain stationary for some periods of time, use hands and fingers, communicate, move, occasionally required to position self to stoop, kneel or crouch, frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands as required in using standard office equipment and a PC. Specific vision abilities by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to focus. Individual must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems. The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low to moderate noise level.
