Job Title: Assistant Vice President, Human Resources

General Function:

The Hy-Vee Human Resources team has an exciting opportunity in a key HR Leadership role to help position the organization as an employer of choice and best place to work. The Assistant Vice President of Human Resources & Employee Relations provides leadership and guidance to the organization's HR operations, developing strategic HR initiatives, effective polices, and efficient processes. This position will collaborate with executive leadership to develop talent and provide consultation to leaders and other Human Resources professionals on employee relations matters. The person in this role will serve as a valuable strategic and operational resource to the Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Senior Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer

Direct Reports: Human Resources / Talent Supervisors, Talent Acquisition

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that align with overall business objectives and lead the company's employee relations strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and HR best practices.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Human Resources Team, Regional Talent Supervisors, and Talent Acquisition Team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Oversee all aspects of employee relations, including dispute resolution, disciplinary actions, terminations, grievances, internal investigations, and maintaining a positive work culture. Implement best practices for conflict resolution and effective communication.

  • Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management, including expertise in ADA and FLMA.

  • Lead the development and revision of employee relations policies, ensuring they align with legal requirements and support a positive workplace culture, collaborating with HR, Legal, and other key stakeholders to mitigate risk and ensure consistent application of policies.

  • Develop and deliver training programs on employee relations topics, including conflict resolution, anti-discrimination, and harassment prevention.

  • Mentor and coach managers on effective employee relations practices. Develop and implement a comprehensive talent acquisition strategy aligned with the organization's goals and objectives. Partner with senior leadership and department heads to understand talent needs and provide innovative recruitment solutions.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement initiatives to improve employee engagement, retention, and workplace culture.

  • Guide employee engagement initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture and increase employee satisfaction and retention.

  • Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in all talent acquisition activities, ensuring a diverse and inclusive candidate pipeline.

  • Ability to work in a complex, fast-paced environment with multiple tasks, short-long term deadlines.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field preferred.

  • SHRM-CP or SPHR preferred.

  • At least 7 years of human resource management experience required, with strategic, talent management preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near and far range with or without correction, normal depth perceptions.

  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 10 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

There is constant pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day. Travel to multiple communities within territory required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervisory responsibilities include instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning work of others, maintaining standards, and coordinating activities. Has the authority to make recommendations on disciplinary actions and hiring decisions.

Financial Responsibility

Is responsible for company assets. Authorized to use outside services as needed. Makes recommendations to supervisor for the disbursement of company funds.
