This Co-op Internship starts in January 2022 and runs through August 2022.
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Investment Intern will work with Structured and Credit (Public and Private) Teams in a floating capacity to support portfolio reporting, back and middle office investment tasks, and research support tasks. Opportunity to gain a broad knowledge of Investments through hands on training and lunch & learns from senior staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains and updates investment reports for the portfolios of American Equity, while ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
Assists with back and middle office investment tasks, such as populating trade tickets.
Assists the Research Teams in research support tasks, which may include updating financial statement models, tracking covenant compliance, pulling new issue deal documentation, and maintaining data for the Research Teams.
Performs basic credit work for Derivatives, Commercial Paper, and Sec Lending Counterparties.
Begins to develop a structured and systematic approach to analyzing investments.
Obtains knowledge of software used for investment analysis, portfolio management, and reporting, such as Microsoft Office (with an emphasis on Excel and Access), Bloomberg, BondEdge, and Tableau.
Obtains general knowledge of fixed income markets and general understanding of finance, economics, accounting, investment, and insurance principles and practices.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field of study. Completion of Business 101 coursework preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong quantitative, analytical, and modeling skills required.
Strong oral and written communication skills required.
Highly detailed-oriented and well organized with strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects on an ongoing basis.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (with an emphasis on Excel).
Experience with Bloomberg is encouraged.
Coding knowledge with any graphical package encouraged.
Intellectual curiosity and the ability to comprehend and apply investment related principles of advanced mathematical concepts and theory, statistics, accounting, economics, and other practical solutions.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from coworkers and peers.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or governmental regulations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
